Tale of the Tape

Tale of the Tape #13

11/27/09

Each week on Friday Trojan Nation will give statistics and facts on the opponent the Trojans will face. Week thirteen is the first week of inter-district playoffs as the Trojans take on District 4-AAA champions Selinsgrove.

SCHOOL: Selinsgrove is a Class AAA school with a male enrollment of 386 according to the PIAA for the current classification period (2008-10). The town is 3 to 3 1/2 hours away from Johnstown near the Susquehanna River. The team’s website can be viewed at www.sealsfootball.org

COACH: The Seals are coached by Dave Hess who is in his second year at the helm.

LAST SEASON: Selinsgrove is 12-0 this year and were 13-2 a year ago.

HOME FIELD/STADIUM: Harold L. Bolig Memorial Field

COLORS: Red, white and blue.

CONFERENCE: Selinsgrove plays in the Heartland Conference, Division 1. The Seals’ divisional foes are Danville, Montoursville, Shikellamy, Mifflinburg, Milton and Jersey Shore. Their non-division games were against Berwick, Shamokin, Southern Columbia and Mount Carmel.  They also beat Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech in a first round playoff game.

LAST WEEK’S RESULT: Selinsgrove beat Shikellamy for the second time this year, this time for the 4-AAA Championship, by a count of 44-7. JHS beat Hollidaysburg 21-14 for the 6-AAA title.

LAST MEETING: The Seals defeated the Trojans 20-7 back in 2004 in a first round PIAA playoff game.  This was the only meeting between the two teams.

WEATHER FORECAST:  I don't think I've ever posted a Tale of the Tape weather forecast with snow.  Snow showers and wind is in the forecast at kickoff and it will be 21 degrees with a 50% chance of precipitation.  Winds will be 20 MPH from the WNW.  Weather may very well be a factor in this game.  Bundle up!
